You can slice spacetime up into spatial slices, and think
of it as spatial slices evolving as a function of time. (Actually,
there may be spacetimes for which this is impossible). But physics
doesn't give a definite prescription for doing this. Multiple ways
of doing it are indistinguishable as far as anything we can observe.
In some sense, space-time is what you get when you take all possibilities
for space+time, and identify those that are indistinguishable.
Of course, GR is probably *wrong* at some level, and will have to
be modified (to take into account quantum mechanics). After this
modification, it's not clear to me that a space-time continuum
will still be the appropriate way to think about it.

OpenVMS system to read it on, just Windows Server 2003.
